Montevideo Fantástico is Uruguay's first genre film festival, dedicated to horror, fantasy, and science fiction.

Since 2005 it has worked with national and international films, focusing on independent and ultra-independent productions that often fall outside traditional exhibition circuits.

The festival features competitive sections for short films and feature films, alongside exhibitions, parallel programmes showcasing classics, tributes to genre figures, and talks by specialists.

At each screening the audience votes on the films. That dynamic defines the result of each edition and is central to the experience of the festival.
