An action-horror musical comedy — "where Monty Python meets The Texas Chainsaw Massacre… and Les Misérables", as its young Estonian director Sander Maran (35) put it — the film was shot in 2013 and then spent ten years in solitary post-production, during which Maran handled all the editing, visual effects, sound design, musical orchestration and colour correction himself. The violence is intentionally exaggerated, in service of a wild and unhinged proposal, though the apparent wallowing in gore is also justified by the eccentric behaviour of characters who together form a remarkably striking, funny, bizarre and thoroughly entertaining genre mosaic. Winner of more than 60 awards at genre film festivals around the world.
