MARTÍN VUELVE

Argentina / Uruguay·2025·64 min·AM 12

Pía, a horror novelist recovering from a psychiatric crisis, hosts a reunion of primary school classmates at her home. Things proceed with a semblance of normality until Martín arrives — a guest no one seems to remember, and whom Pía was convinced had died. Struggling to distinguish intuition from paranoia, she begins noticing disturbing details about him. What if he is not who he claims to be? Her obsession grows, and confronting him leaves her exposed, alone with her doubts. But what seemed like a hallucination may not be entirely that.

Festival note by Alejandro Yamgotchian

Debut feature from Uruguayan duo Rossana Bossio and Javier Cabezudo, who were previously recognised at an earlier festival edition with their short Hora del té. Here they debut with a psychological thriller in which the protagonist seems to be living through one of her own novels — mystery and suspense reinforced by remarkable cinematography (lighting, framing) that builds genuinely unsettling, slightly oppressive atmospheres, with mental health running quietly as an undercurrent throughout.
